The key directions of the Turkmen-Afghan trade and economic cooperation were discussed during telephone conversation between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his Afghan colleague Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
Having with satisfaction noted dynamics of expansion of interaction both in bilateral, and in a multilateral format, interlocutors emphasized that deepening of interstate dialogue was promoted by the major agreements reached following the results of an official visit to Turkmenistan of the President of Afghanistan in July, 2017.
The Afghan leader emphasized that in his country sincerely valued good neighbourhood with Turkmenistan and highly appreciated the peace-loving foreign policy pursued by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov which acted as the most important factor of maintenance of stability, the peace and safety in the region.
Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed confidence that the approaches to the solution of the Afghan perspective offered by the President of Turkmenistan which found the reflection in important international initiatives would serve peace-making and stability on its homeland.
According to the President of Afghanistan, the large-scale investment projects realized in fuel and energy and transport spheres were designed to play a huge role in it. It, first of all, was the construction of the transnational gas pipeline of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI).
"This gas highway on which long-term supply of the Turkmen natural gas to the largest countries of Southeast Asia will be performed will give a powerful impulse to economic development of all region, will allow to create thousands of workplaces", Mohammad Ashraf Ghani told.
Interlocutors also emphasized the significant role of a cooperation in the transport and communication sphere that was dictated by a geographical location of two countries. An example of productive partnership was the railroad Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akina put into operation in November, 2016. Being the first stage of the Asian international railway transport corridor, in the long term this steel highway would be extended to Tajikistan and would become an important link of routes of transit transportations in regional and international scale.
Interlocutors also noted fruitful interaction between the states and in the sphere of power industry. Today the Turkmen electric power arrives to northern regions of Afghanistan on favorable terms. And upon termination of a construction of the corresponding additional capacities it is planned to increase amounts of its deliveries.
Turkmenistan also delivers to Afghanistan the liquefied gas on preferential price, builds subjects to social, in particular, medical and educational appointment in a neighboring state.
As the President of Turkmenistan said, "our country intends to take the most active part in international efforts on revival of the neighboring Afghanistan from now on and to render feasible assistance in recovery of its social and economic infrastructure, supporting by that the Afghan people in its aspiration to peaceful and safe life".
Speaking about questions of partnership in the trade and economic sphere, interlocutors stated feasibility of a growth in volumes of mutual trade and its diversification. In this aspect need to stir up activities of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Afghan commission and also business contacts through private business was noted.
Discussing issues of interaction in the humanitarian sphere, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the Turkmen side would further assist the neighboring country in training of qualified personnel on various specialties, training the Afghan students in higher education institutions of Turkmenistan.
On behalf of the Afghan people the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed gratitude to the Turkmen colleague for solidarity and active support in stable development of Afghanistan, the efficient economic and humanitarian aid provided by Turkmenistan all these years.
During the conversation of the heads of two states also some aspects of the international and regional policy, which were of mutual interest, were discussed.
