The countries of Central Asia strengthen regional cooperation

In Samarkand on November 10-11, 2017 hosted the international conference on security and sustainable development in Central Asia under the auspices of the United Nations "Central Asia: a common past and a common future, cooperation for sustainable development and mutual prosperity" as well as another meeting of foreign Ministers of Central Asian States is of the format "European Union – Central Asia". This was reported on the website of the foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

In the work of these international events were attended by the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

To participate in the conference, arrived the foreign Ministers of the countries of the region, managers of such authoritative organizations as the UN, European Union, OSCE, SCO, CIS, EBRD, representatives of the diplomatic corps, well-known experts, media workers, with more than 500 participants.

November 10, 2017 in Samarkand on the sidelines of the international forum held another meeting of foreign Ministers of the five States in our region. The foreign Ministers of five States signed the Program of cooperation between the ministries of foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in 2018-2019.

In the framework of the activities conducted by the head of the delegation of Turkmenistan R. Meredov met with EU high representative for foreign Affairs and security policy / Vice-President of the European Commission Ms. Federica Mogherini. During the meeting the sides discussed the prospects and state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in political, economic and trade fields.

During the visit the Turkmen delegation to Samarkand was organized meeting with R. Meredov, the foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. During the talks the sides discussed current state and prospects of development of bilateral relations, special attention was paid to the expansion and deepening of cooperation in trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian sphere, as well as to maintaining stability and security in Central Asia and beyond.

In addition, through participation in the international conference in Samarkand, an Agreement was signed between Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on the area of the point where the borders of three States, as well as the Protocol on exchange of instruments of ratification of the Agreement on strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, signed 6 March 2017 in Ashgabat at the highest level.
