The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on the eve of a meeting with a delegation of the UN Conference on trade and development (UNCTAD), headed by the Secretary-General, Mr. Muhith Kituyi, reported on the website of the foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting the Turkmen side underlined that cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies remains an important priority of the foreign policy of the country. Noted the importance of cooperation with the UNCTAD explore the possibilities for beginning of the process of accession to the world trade organization (WTO).
It was also noted that in Turkmenistan with the support of the President created a special government Commission to study this issue.
It was stated that Turkmenistan will continue working in this direction and with the assistance of UNCTAD will conduct follow-up activities on capacity building of employees of the economic sector of Turkmenistan.
After the meeting signed a "Memorandum on cooperation between government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations conference on trade and development on priority directions of cooperation".
As emphasized by the Turkmen side, the signing of the Memorandum clearly defined the vector of priorities of cooperation with UNCTAD. The document identifies three main vectors of cooperation, namely: promotion of investment; customs modernization, transport and logistics; and promoting the study of the question of accession to the WTO.
It is also noted that the document allows, if necessary, at the initiative of the parties to satisfy the collaboration with UNCTAD, new priorities that will help to broaden the scope of interaction with the multi-faceted activities of UNCTAD and rapidly developing economy of Turkmenistan and the realities of the modern world.
