China in the end of 2017 increased the import of natural gas by 26.9% in annual terms, to 68.57 million tons. This is stated in the report of the Main Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China.
The total cost of purchases amounted to 23.28 billion dollars, which is 41.2% higher than the same indicator for the same period last year.
In December 2017, China imported 7.89 million tons of gas worth $ 2.99 billion.
As a result of 2016, gas imports to China increased by 22% and reached 54.3 million tons, TASS reported.
It should be noted that China is the largest buyer of Turkmenistan's natural gas.
At the beginning of December 2017 it was reported that the total volume of gas delivered to China by the Central Asia-China gas pipeline reached 200 billion cubic meters. At present, the total throughput of the gas pipeline is 55 billion cubic meters per year.
The gas pipeline provides gas supply to more than 300 million inhabitants of 27 Chinese provinces, cities of central subordination and districts, as well as the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong.
The key gas suppliers for gas pipelines to China are: Turkmenistan - 77 percent, Uzbekistan - 12 percent, Myanmar - 10 percent.
It is expected that the volume of gas consumption in China will increase to 340 billion cubic meters in 2020, while 120 billion cubic meters will be imported.
