The EU expects to obtain gas from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan via the southern gas corridor

A project of the southern gas corridor (SGC) were discussed during the meeting of the cooperation Council of the European Union and Azerbaijan. In reports of the Azerbaijani foreign Ministry noted that the parties paid special attention to the construction of the component parts of the SGC - the TRANS-Adriatic pipeline, the news Agency ORIENT.

At present, Brussels pays special attention to the promotion of the SGC project, which is intended for the supply of Azerbaijani "blue fuel" to the countries of southern Europe. At the first stage, the pipeline is planned to supply 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year, of which 6 billion cubic meters are intended for Turkey, and 10 billion cubic meters for the Old World. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2019-2020.

In the future, the European Union expects to use the SGC infrastructure to supply Turkmen and Kazakh natural gas to the European market.

According to experts, Azerbaijani gas will not be able to load all the capacities of the southern gas corridor. And in order to organize reliable gas supplies to the European market, which would allow us to talk about the full diversification of energy supply of the Old World, it is necessary to connect gas from Central Asia, and above all, Turkmenistan to the SGC.

To implement this project, it is necessary to build a pipeline along the bottom of the Caspian sea - TRANS-Caspian gas pipeline. Experts believe that after the signing by the Caspian sea countries of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea, which is scheduled for the first half of this year, the construction of the TRANS-Caspian gas pipeline will not take long.
