Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin discussed by telephone the key areas of Turkmen-Russian cooperation

Yesterday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a telephone conversation with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

Stressing the constructive nature of the interstate dialogue, the leaders of Turkmenistan and Russia specified the key areas of bilateral cooperation, including in the trade and economic sphere, noting the presence of a solid potential for mutually beneficial combination of efforts in various sectors.

The parties noted the significant role of the joint intergovernmental Commission and regular business contacts. Thus, last week, a regular meeting of the high-level group on trade and investment support under the auspices of the above-mentioned Commission was held in Ashgabat. Its work is intended to contribute to the practical implementation of the agreements reached by the parties and diversification of the Turkmen-Russian partnership with a view to the future.

Turkmenistan's cooperation with Russia's major regions, including the Republic of Tatarstan, Astrakhan and Sverdlovsk regions, St. Petersburg and other regions, is also developing successfully.

The importance of the Turkmen-Russian humanitarian dialogue, stimulating ties in the field of education and science, culture and art, sports and tourism was also emphasized.

During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on a number of topical issues of regional and global agenda of mutual interest. At the same time, the readiness of both countries to strengthen effective cooperation within the framework of authoritative international organizations and structures that meet the goals of world peace and prosperity was reaffirmed.

In this regard, it was noted the importance of the adoption at a recent meeting of the UN Security Council Resolution on the extension of the mandate of the UN assistance Mission in Afghanistan. This document was a clear evidence of the support of the Community of Nations for major infrastructure projects for the development of Afghanistan, including the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, transmission lines and fiber – optic communication TAP, as well as the railway Kerki-Imamnazar-Akina, which is the initial link of the steel corridor Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan initiated by our country. As it was stressed, neutral Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to international efforts for peaceful revival of the neighboring state and its involvement in positive regional and interregional integration processes.

During the conversation, the Turkmen leader expressed hope that on March 18 the people of the Russian Federation will make the right decision at the presidential elections.

Taking an opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President of Russia Vladimir Putin to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan.

At the end of the conversation, the leaders of the two States, Reaffirming Turkmenistan's and Russia's unwavering commitment to traditional relations of friendship and fruitful cooperation, exchanged best wishes to each other and the peoples of the two countries.
