Caspian countries agreed on a draft Convention on the status of the Sea, - Ministry of foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan

The draft Convention on the status of the Caspian sea has been practically agreed, Azerbaijani foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said, INTERFAX-AZERBAIJAN reports.

"We can say that the draft Convention on the status of the Caspian sea has been agreed between the five parties", - Mammadyarov said in an interview with the state Agency AzerTAj.

On December 5, 2017, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, following the meeting of the Ministers of foreign Affairs of the "Caspian five" held in Moscow, said that its participants agreed on all the key provisions of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea, work on which was carried out for almost 20 years. According to him, the text of the document is actually ready to be signed by the leaders of the five Caspian countries at the summit, which will be held in August 2018 in Kazakhstan.

On June 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted the government's proposal to sign the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea.
