The Convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea, signed during the V summit of the heads of the Caspian States, could be an additional step to increase gas exports through the TRANS-Adriatic gas pipeline (TAP). This was stated by Trend Deputy Director of the International Institute of energy policy and diplomacy of the Moscow state Institute of international relations, candidate of economic Sciences Igbal Guliyev.
"During the summit in Aktau, six more agreements were signed, including an agreement in the field of transport, cooperation in the trade and economic sphere and prevention of incidents at sea. Against the background of progress in the plans of cooperation on the Caspian region, Turkmenistan hopes for the possibility of building a TRANS - Caspian gas pipeline along the bottom of the Caspian sea to the shores of Azerbaijan with further connection to the TRANS-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), the continuation of which is TAP," Guliyev said.
The issues of connecting new suppliers to the southern gas corridor project and plans to increase capacity remain on the agenda. Potential suppliers of natural gas using the SGC pipeline system are the countries of the Caspian region. In the near future, the interest of various countries to the TRANS-Adriatic pipeline will only increase, the expert believes.
"We believe that in the near future it will be possible to remove all artificial and natural barriers to the completion of the Italian section of the TAP project. Funds are actively involved in the construction of the project. In General, the TRANS-Adriatic gas pipeline can be assessed as a geo-economically efficient transport route that allows European countries to diversify natural gas supplies. TAP participants have vast experience in implementing large - scale international energy projects, using modern technologies and complying with the requirements of environmental protection and safety. Let me remind you that us President Donald trump spoke in support of the construction of TAP as an important element of the "southern gas corridor"," Guliyev said.
