The presentation of a new book by the member of the Academy of Sciences, doctor of economic Sciences, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov “On the Way to Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan” was held at the Turkmen state Institute of Economics and management.
The publication is an analytical review of the development of the country with a rich natural, impressive production, infrastructure and human potential, implementation of national and sectoral programs, major projects of socio-economic importance in terms of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), adopted in September 2015 by the UN member States as the main component of the Agenda for sustainable development until 2030.
As it was noted at the presentation, the new book outlines the strategic objectives of the domestic and foreign policy of the state, its priorities, the successes achieved as a result of the practical implementation of important international initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The publication contains a wealth of factual and statistical material, allowing to present the enormous amount of work carried out in the country, as well as a clear validity of future plans.
The book is divided into two parts. The first-the main one-is devoted to the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan in the context of achieving the SDG. The second part of the book is devoted to the improvement of macroeconomic proportions and foreign economic policy for sustainable development. It defines the key directions, guidelines and priorities of the national strategy until 2030, formulated the tasks of international cooperation, outlined the prospects of public-private partnership in Turkmenistan.
The book is intended for a wide range of readers: political scientists, economists, researchers, teachers of social Sciences, students.
Program coordinator of the UNDP Regional office for Europe and the CIS Ekaterina Paniklova during the presentation stressed that this book will be useful to all who are interested in the current state of development of Turkmenistan.
As Mr. Siraj Mahmudlu, Deputy head of the UNICEF Office and acting permanent coordinator of the United Nations, noted in his speech, Turkmenistan was one of the first countries in the region to start adapting the global goals. As a result, 17 goals, 148 targets and 175 SDG indicators were nationalized.
