The Central building of the oil and gas complex of Turkmenistan hosted the 7th meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Afghan Commission on trade and economic cooperation. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Myratgeldy Meredov, heads and representatives of a number of leading ministries and departments, including the oil and gas industry of the country. A representative delegation headed by the acting Minister of Finance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Humayun Kayumi arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the work of the Commission from the Afghan side.
During the meeting, it was noted that Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, which are friendly and neighboring States, signed many documents on bilateral cooperation.
One of the main topics of the meeting of the intergovernmental Commission was the discussion of the results of the work done on the practical implementation of the agreements reached earlier. The sides also voiced mutual intentions to deepen cultural and humanitarian cooperation, in particular, in such areas as science, culture, health, education and tourism
The important political, social and economic importance of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline as a strategic energy project for the participating countries was also noted.
During the negotiations, the Ministry of railway transport of Turkmenistan and the railway Department of Afghanistan signed a Memorandum on the construction of a railway line for the development of the Akina station. An Agreement was also signed on the construction of an additional 10-kilometer railway and carrying out design, survey and construction works at the relevant facilities.
Following the meeting of the joint intergovernmental Turkmen-Afghan Commission on economic cooperation, the relevant Protocol was signed.
