Russia is considering the possibility of participation in the TAPI project

Russia and Pakistan are studying the feasibility of Russian corporations entering into projects for the construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) and Iran-Pakistan gas pipelines. As reported by the media of the Russian Federation, this is stated in the materials on the meeting of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan: which was held on the sidelines of EXPO in Shanghai, the News Agency ORIENT reports.

The head of the Russian government noted that Pakistan is a large and very promising partner of Russia. He stressed that the meeting in Shanghai is a good opportunity to discuss current Affairs, "to find some interesting new proposals that could be implemented".

The government of Pakistan supports adding of Russia to the regional project of construction of the power line “CASA - 1000". The project provides for the creation of a power transmission system from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Also, the parties are studying the issue of participation of Russian corporations in the projects of construction of TAPI and Iran-Pakistan gas pipelines.

TAPI is one of the most ambitious projects of our time. In addition to the solution of purely economic problems, it is intended to contribute to the solution of a long - term regional problem-the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as the improvement of the overall situation in the region. The project was approved by Russia, the United States and other countries, as well as international financial institutions, in particular, the Asian development Bank and the Islamic development Bank.

According to experts, TAPI will diversify Turkmenistan's gas export, give to Afghanistan the means to solve the most pressing social and economic problems, and to Pakistan and India energy resources for economic development.

Construction of the pipeline with a length of more than 1800 kilometers and a capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year began in December 2015 in Turkmenistan. According to the project, TAPI should pass from the giant Turkmen gas field Galkynysh, through a number of Afghan provinces, Pakistani cities and reach the Pakistani-Indian border near the city of Fazilka. In February 2018, the construction of the Afghan section of TAPI began. It is also expected to start construction of the TAPI gas pipeline in Pakistan.

Many States, banks and companies are interested in the TAPI project. Thus, Saudi Arabia is already investing in TAPI. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are interested in the project. As the foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdurakhmanov stated earlier, the Kazakh side has indicated its interest in TAPI to Turkmen and Indian partners, and is currently studying the project.

Of course, the participation of Russian companies in the construction of TAPI, with experience in the construction of such infrastructure facilities, will contribute to the acceleration
