Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed with the Turkish foreign minister the prospects of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavushoglu discussed issues of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation in Ashgabat last Friday. The parties paid special attention to the expansion of partnership in the trade and economic sphere, energy, transport and communication sector. In this regard, the prospects for the creation of the international transit-transport corridor Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (Lazurite) were discussed.

Currently, the development of the Lazurite transport and transit corridor is of particular relevance. In October, Vice-Premier of the Turkmen government on transport and communication Manmathan Chakaev on behalf of the President discussed this project in Baku with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The sides noted the great potential for expanding cooperation in the transport, transit and logistics sectors and exchanged views on the export opportunities of countries and the transport of transit goods.

Also in October, a delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Vice-Chairman and foreign minister Rashid Meredov paid a working visit to Baku. One of the points of the inter-Ministerial consultations was the need to increase the volume of cargo transportation between the international sea ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku.
