Vladimir Putin: new opportunities for strengthening trade and economic cooperation with Turkmenistan are open

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in his New year's message to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov drew attention to new opportunities for strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, the press service of the Kremlin tells.

"The recent entry into force of the Treaty on strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan opens new opportunities to strengthen mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in political, trade-economic, energy, humanitarian and many other areas and, of course, corresponds to the aspirations of the friendly peoples of the two countries" - are words of the Russian President.

It should be noted that the Agreement on strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia was signed following the official visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Ashgabat in early October 2017.

About 190 companies with Russian capital operate in Turkmenistan. Since 2009, ARETI holding (formerly known as ITERA) has been operating under the terms of the production sharing agreement in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian sea.

Russian Gazprom's long - standing partner of Turkmenistan in the oil and gas sector, with a November 2018 is negotiating the terms of renewal of purchases of Turkmen natural gas. At the same time, the parties consider the current intergovernmental Agreement between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation on cooperation in the gas sector until 2028 to be the basic document.
