It is possible to expand the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) in two directions, Vice President of the BP Azerbaijan Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli told to Trend.
According to him, “the first direction is the gas resources of Azerbaijan, and not only Shah Deniz, but also other fields, such as Shafag-Asiman, Umid-Babek, operated by SOCAR and other fields”.
- The second direction is the gas resources of third countries. This question depends on the willingness and interest of these countries, - the Vice President of BP said.
As Aslanbeyli noted, there are technical capabilities to expand this gas pipeline, adding that SGK was originally designed so that its capacity can be doubled.
Recall that on February 20, 2019, the fifth ministerial meeting was held in Baku within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, with the participation of representatives of the states involved in the implementation of SGC, other countries, project shareholders and international financial institutions. Following the meeting, the European Union and Azerbaijan invited Turkmenistan to join the SGC project.
