The BRICS countries intend to strengthen energy cooperation and recognize the need to accelerate the transition to alternative energy sources. This is stated in the Declaration, which was adopted by the leaders of the participating States of the forum.
"We commit to strengthen energy cooperation in the BRICS, especially in the framework of the transition to more environmentally sustainable energy systems, aimed at supporting the global agenda for sustainable development, balanced economic growth and the overall socio-economic well — being of our citizens," the Declaration says.
BRICS countries are committed to ensuring universal access to energy, energy security, reducing pollution and preserving the environment, RIA Novosti reports.
"We reaffirm that the diversification of energy sources, including renewable and low-carbon, investments in energy and energy infrastructure, development of the energy sector and energy market, as well as cooperation in the BRICS on access to primary energy sources will continue to serve as the basis of our energy security. We recognize the need to accelerate the transition to the use of alternative energy sources, including in the field of transport, heat power and industry," the Declaration emphasizes.
Energy Ministers of the BRICS countries agreed to establish a platform for energy studies, BRICS and development of its rules of procedure, consultations are ongoing on this matter.
