"Southern gas corridor" will become a bridge between the EU market and the Caspian region, the European Commission

"Southern gas corridor", which envisages the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, remains one of the priority projects for the European Commission, told Trend in the European Commission, responding to a question about the compatibility of the project with the strategy of the transition to clean energy in the EU.

The European Commission noted that the southern gas corridor is of strategic importance for European energy security, especially in the most vulnerable parts of Europe, such as South-Eastern Europe and southern Italy.

"We will all benefit from this" bridge " between the EU market and the Caspian region. Our goal, in the end, is to create a pan - European energy market based on free trade, competition and diversified supplies, sources and routes," the European Commission said.

On May 29, 2018, the launch ceremony of the first phase of the southern gas corridor project was held in Baku. Thus, the first gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field has already gone through the first segment of the southern gas corridor - from the expanded for Shah Deniz-2 Sanchagal terminal to the expanded South Caucasus gas pipeline.

The next stage was the commissioning of the TANAP gas pipeline, through which the gas will enter the territory of Turkey and further to Europe.

It should be recalled that at the recent talks in Brussels, the delegation of Turkmenistan with the Deputy Chairman of the European Commission on energy Union Marosh Shefchovich and representatives of the Directorate General for energy of the European Commission discussed in detail the implementation of the TRANS-Caspian gas pipeline project, which will become part of the southern gas corridor.

The EU showed great interest in the construction of this gas pipeline and the supply of Turkmen natural gas to the European market. The participants of the talks from the European Union expressed their readiness to promote investment in the implementation of this important energy project, which is designed to strengthen the energy security of the continent.

The project of the TRANS-Caspian gas pipeline provides for the supply of Turkmen gas to the European market in the amount of 30 billion cubic meters per year for at least 30 years.

It is also important that Turkmenistan has all the opportunities to implement major energy projects - both in this direction and in other vectors. To this end, the necessary infrastructure has been created on the territory of our country, including the internal East-West gas pipeline, which provides for reverse gas transfers from Eastern Turkmenistan to Western regions and back. As for gas reserves, Turkmenistan is among the three world leaders, which provides guaranteed opportunities for long-term supply of "blue fuel" in a number of areas.
