Demand for Turkmen polymers grows

Turkmenistan has become one of the largest suppliers of polyethylene to the Russian Federation. The products of the new gas chemical complex in Kiyanli were first put up for sale through the State commodity exchange last autumn and immediately aroused great interest among representatives of the Russian business community.

According to experts, this fact – the emergence in Central Asia of a new manufacturer of the popular polymer – led to the rapid growth of imports of low-pressure polyethylene in Russia. In four months of 2019, it reached a record level – almost 108 thousand tons. This is 27 thousand tons more than in the same period of 2018. The five leaders in terms of supply of these products included Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Finland, South Korea and Thailand.

In general, Russian entrepreneurs purchase high density polyethylene through The State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan, intended for the manufacture of pipes used for transporting water and gas, as well as for injection molding household, economic and technical items. In particular, these are containers for household chemicals, jerry cans, barrels, toys, dishes, various kitchen and bathroom products, components for automotive and household appliances, etc.

Along with this, there is still a high demand for domestic polypropylene. Recall that in recent years Turkmenistan has been leading in the supply of this type of polymer to the Russian market, ahead of countries such as Germany, South Korea, Finland, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Austria, Uzbekistan, Italy, the Netherlands, China. Now not only the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries, but also the polymer plant in Kiyanly successfully competes with the world's leading producers of polypropylene.

According to the Federal customs service of Russia, plastic products rank first in the list of goods imported from Turkmenistan. The total cost of polymers supplied to Russia from our country in the first quarter of 2019 is more than 18 million us dollars. This is 78 percent more than in the same period last year. If we compare with the first quarter of 2017, the volume of polymer supplies to the Russian market increased more than 5 times.

It should also be noted that in the first three months of this year, the total volume of exports of various types of oil products from Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation amounted to 465.4 thousand us dollars. This is 1.6 times more than for the whole 2017 year.
