Turkmenistan delegation discusses implementation of TAPI gas pipeline and other projects in Afghanistan

The government delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov visited the province of Herat (Afghanistan) on June 16–17, the site of the Foreign Ministry of our country reports.

During the visit, a meeting was held with the Infrastructure Adviser to the President of Afghanistan, Acting Finance Minister, Co-Chairman of the Afghan Part of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, Muhammad Humayun Kaumi.

The purpose of the meeting was the implementation of the agreements reached between the two heads of state during the official visit of the President of Afghanistan in February 2019 to Turkmenistan. Following the meeting, bilateral documents on cooperation in the field of railway transport and electricity were signed, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan said.

According to the Afghan agency TOLOnews, during the visit of the Turkmen delegation, issues related to the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline and other projects were also discussed. Representatives of the two countries also signed agreements on expanding Turgundi-Herat and Akin-Andkhoy railway projects, as well as expanding the distribution of electricity to the city of Herat and the practical implementation of the TAPI project and the construction of power lines Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP).

Recall, February 20–21, 2019, President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, during an official visit to Turkmenistan, discussed key areas of the Turkmen-Afghan partnership with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of previously reached agreements and prospects for cooperation.
