Turkmen Foreign Minister discusses joint projects in Afghanistan and India

The implementation of large-scale and long-term infrastructure projects was discussed during a visit by a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan headed by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to Afghanistan and India, the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.

In particular, on February 1, the Turkmen delegation was received by the President of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. During the meeting, a wide range of issues was discussed related to the further intensification of political and diplomatic interaction, the expansion of economic cooperation, and the development of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.

At the same time, the role and significance of the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, aimed at further strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership of Turkmenistan with Afghanistan, was emphasized.

The parties paid great attention to the implementation of large-scale and long-term infrastructure projects currently being implemented by the two countries. Among them, a special place is occupied by the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, power lines and fiber-optic communications along the route Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan, and railways from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

The delegation of Turkmenistan informed the Afghan side of the readiness of Turkmenistan to continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the neighboring country on a systematic basis.

The Turkmen delegation also met with the head of the executive branch of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, an adviser to the President on national security, the minister of foreign affairs and a number of heads of other state bodies of Afghanistan.

During the visit, the Turkmen delegation held talks with the head of UNAMA, Tadamichi Yamamoto, at the Kabul headquarters of the Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.

On February 2, during a brief trip to New Delhi, a working meeting was held between the head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India, Subramaniam Jaishanqar. The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects for the development of Turkmen-Indian relations, discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.
