Modern technologies for satellite monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions have become the subject of online training sessions held in Turkmenistan. The training took place within the framework of the project “The EU in Turkmenistan: on the way to “green” development – political dialogue and climate action for 2024–2029” with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The classes were organized on the basis of the information and analytical center of the Research Institute of Natural Gas of the State Concern "Turkmengas". They were attended by representatives of relevant ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as well as specialists from the Turkmengaz and Turkmennebit Group.
As part of the training, modern approaches to satellite surveillance, data processing methods, as well as technologies for automatic detection of emissions and quality control were presented. Special attention is paid to the practical application of data and international standards, including the OGMP 2.0 initiative and EU requirements. The participants got acquainted with the analytical capabilities of the GHGSAT platform, and also discussed topical scientific and technical issues in the format of a dialogue.
As a result of the event, the students noted the practical significance of the knowledge gained for the development of environmental monitoring in the country.
