A meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has begun in the Avaza national tourism zone on October 9, the International Information Centre of Turkmenistan reports.
The meeting is taking place during a significant period – the year marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the CIS. The event has brought together leaders from member states to review years of cooperation and to define key priorities for the future.
Opening the session, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the participants on the Independence Day of the Republic of Tajikistan and conveyed his best wishes to the leadership and peoples of all Commonwealth states.
The Head of Turkmenistan emphasized that, over the years, the CIS has proven its worth as a valuable platform for political dialogue, economic ties and humanitarian cooperation. Despite objective challenges, a solid foundation for partnership, based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and consideration for each other’s interests, has been preserved.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also noted the steady positive trend in aggregate trade turnover and the consistent expansion of trade and economic ties.
Particular attention was paid to the strengthening of inter-parliamentary relations and cultural and humanitarian exchanges and to cooperation in the fields of science, education, sports and tourism, the Turkmen leader noted.
The President emphasized that the multifaceted dialogue within the CIS framework serves to strengthen trust and mutual understanding among peoples and to enhance the Commonwealth’s standing on the international stage.
