With gaining the country’s independence, a broad path was opened for the implementation of enormous changes in all spheres of public life in Turkmenistan. This marked the beginning of positive reforms in all sectors of the national economy, including the country’s fuel and energy complex. Thus, in the oil and gas complex, which is the fundamental basis of the economy of Turkmenistan, broad opportunities for modern development in new historical conditions appeared, including the gas industry and its processing industry. As a result, the gas fields 10 Years of Independence, Ýolguýi, Çymçykly, Independence, Eastern Tutly, Eastern Üçaji–Çagelik–Könegala and Tagtabazar-I, discovered in different years, were put into pilot and industrial operation, which contributed to the strengthening of the national economy, the successful implementation of the Presidential programs to transform the social and living conditions of the population of villages, settlements, towns, etraps and etrap centers and increasing the country’s export potential.
The 10 Years of Independence gas field (Bäşgyzyl) is located in the south-eastern part of the Zaunguz Karakum Desert, on the territory of the Sayat etrap, 180 km from the administrative center of the Lebap velayat, the city of Turkmenabat, and 160 km from the city of Mary. Natural gas from the deposits is processed at the integrated gas treatment plant (IGTP) located 92 kilometers away at the Üçajy field and is sent to external and internal consumers. The Üçajy, Seýrap, Malaý, Bagaja and Kukurtli gas pipelines run 60-70 kilometers north-west of this field.
