As of March 1, 2026, the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline has delivered approximately 460 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China. This was stated by Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in an interview with the Chinese television channel CGTN during a recent friendly visit to China.

"The fuel and energy sector is a strategic vector of Turkmen-Chinese cooperation. And this is understandable: our countries have enormous potential in this area," noted Hero-Arkadag.

"As is known, in April 2006, the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the People's Republic of China signed a General Agreement on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-China Gas Pipeline Project and the supply of Turkmen natural gas to the People's Republic of China. The pipeline was commissioned on December 14, 2009. "Starting today, Turkmenistan will annually export approximately 40 billion cubic meters of gas to China in accordance with the Agreement," said Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

"We are currently working together to increase gas export volumes to 65 billion cubic meters per year," continued Hero-Arkadag.

As the head of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized, "such a gas strategy meets the long-term interests of Turkmenistan and China and is consistent with global economic development trends. At the same time, the role of energy supplies is increasing. This also demonstrates the development of genuinely cooperative relations based on equality, opportunity, and future prospects."

"Ultimately, this pipeline is a real, practical example of taking into account the interests of all participants in energy projects – producers, transit countries, and consumers. Here, it is appropriate to emphasize the close positions of Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China on issues related to the reliable and secure supply of energy resources to global markets," said Hero-Arkadag.

He also noted that "the Chinese company CNPC has won an international tender to develop one of the world's largest gas fields, Galkynyş, located in southeastern Turkmenistan. This project is designed to ensure an additional 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually."

"Thus, the powerful infrastructure network for exporting Turkmen energy resources to China is being jointly and consistently developed to ensure long-term, uninterrupted supplies. I would especially like to commend the conscientious work of our Chinese partners, who have been participating in the development of Turkmenistan's gas fields for many years," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

"Chinese specialists will continue their work and expand their activities in our country, which is in line with the fundamental interests of both countries and the goals of energy stability and security on the Asian continent," the National Leader of the Turkmen People concluded.
