The Balkanabat branch of Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas is carrying out modern training of young specialists for the oil and gas, energy and chemical industries. Currently, this university prepares personnel with thorough training in areas such as oil and gas geology; geophysical methods of mineral exploration and prospecting; oil and gas well drilling; oil and gas field development and operation; design, construction and operation of oil and gas pipelines and storage facilities; chemical technology for oil and gas processing; electric power and electrical engineering; and electric drives and automation for industrial facilities and process systems. After completing their studies, graduates work at the Türkmengaz, Türkmennebit and Türkmenhimiýa State Concerns and the Türkmengeologiýa State Corporation of the country’s oil and gas sector and at research institutes and relevant industry departments.
The Balkan velayat is well known to be the most developed and promising region in the fuel and energy sector, which serves as the foundation of the national economy. This abundant region produces the bulk of Turkmenistan’s oil, billions of cubic meters of “blue fuel”, all of its table salt, industrial iodine, carbon and bromine. The Program of the Development of the Oil and Gas Industry of Turkmenistan through 2030 provides for the industrial development of new sites in the country’s western region, and this work is proceeding at an unabated pace.
