Ways to further develop partnership with the Economic Cooperation Organization were discussed at a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the ECO Secretary General Asad Majid Khan, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported on February 12.
During the meeting, held as part of the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Iran, an interested exchange of views took place on the state of multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ECO, and ways to further develop the partnership were outlined, the Foreign Ministry said.
Rashid Meredov emphasized that Turkmenistan seeks to contribute to increasing the efficiency of this multilateral structure. The transport sector and border trade were named as one of the priority areas. In this context, the importance of the Framework Agreement on Transport and Transit, as well as the Trade Agreement of the Organization, was noted.
Paying special attention to partnership in the field of sustainable development, the ECO Secretary General proposed organizing events in Turkmenistan in the field of sustainable development in the first half of 2025. Rashid Meredov invited Asad Majid Khan to take part in the events held in Turkmenistan as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust. Having confirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan and the ECO to constructive dialogue, the parties expressed confidence in the further progressive development of cooperation.
