The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung discussed the expansion of the bilateral cooperation in Seoul. The high-level talks took place on September 15 during the Turkmen leader’s state visit to the Republic of Korea, TDH reports.
As Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening the bilateral relations with the Republic of Korea, a key partner in the Asia-Pacific region.
President Lee Jae-myung emphasized that Turkmenistan is an economically powerful state possessing vast natural resources. The implementation of large-scale joint projects demonstrates a high level of industrial cooperation and serves the interests of both countries and their peoples.
Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. Turkmenistan highly values the activities of Korean companies in the Turkmen market; a number of strategically important projects have already been completed or are currently underway with their participation, Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
The head of the Turkmen state reaffirmed our country’s interest in developing bilateral partnerships across various sectors, including investment, trade, energy, industry, logistics, the chemical industry, railway transport, artificial intelligence, science and technology, water resource management and environment protection.
Following the talks, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea signed an intergovernmental agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments and concluded a solid package of cooperation documents. These included an agreement on customs cooperation and memoranda of partnership in areas such as the chemical industry, artificial intelligence, railway transport, water resource management and others.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on a grand scale next year. In this regard, the Turkmen leader invited Lee Jae-myung to visit Turkmenistan in 2027.
As part of the visit, the President of Turkmenistan visited Sungkyunkwan University, one of Asia’s oldest higher education institutions, founded in 1398. There Serdar Berdimuhamedov was awarded an honorary doctorate in political science for his contribution to the development of regional dialogue and the digital transformation of the economy.
