The EU to provide support to Turkmenistan and Central Asian countries in further reducing methane emissions

The Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkmenistan Maciej Adam Madaliński confirmed the readiness of EU member states to provide comprehensive support to Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries in further reducing methane emissions, the Turkmenistan: Golden Age edition reported on October 30.

The European diplomat stated this while addressing participants at a regional conference entitled “From Methane Data to Action: Strengthening Methane Emissions Management, Mobilizing Capital and Developing Regional Cooperation in Central Asia,” held in Ashgabat from October 29 to 30.

According to the publication, Madaliński reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Turkmenistan and countries in the region, helping them unlock their significant potential through the integration of advanced technologies and the adoption of clean energy standards.

He praised highly Turkmenistan’s leadership in the Central Asian climate agenda and highlighted the importance of the country’s stance on the global stage. "Turkmenistan was one of the first countries in the Central Asian region to commit to international efforts aimed at reducing methane emissions. This further underscores the significance of the issue,” the diplomat noted.

Expressing confidence that Turkmenistan will continue to consistently consolidate its efforts in this area, he emphasized that the practical reduction of methane emissions can have a positive impact on the planet's ecosystem.

The EU representative also noted the recent participation of a European delegation in the International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2026” (OGT 2026) in Ashgabat. In this context, he particularly welcomed the efforts of the Türkmengaz and Türkmennebit State Concerns regarding participation in the UN’s global initiative, the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), which aims at systematically monitoring and reducing emissions within the fuel and energy sector.

The two-day forum was organized by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) with the support of the Ministry of Environment Protection and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as the Global Methane Hub.
