Hero-Arkadag discusses the development of bilateral cooperation with a U.S. Assistant Secretary of State

On November 3, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur, TDH reports

Noting that the United States attaches great importance to the consistent development of cooperation with Turkmenistan, Paul Kapur conveyed greetings to the country’s leadership from President Donald Trump.

As emphasized during the meeting, relations between Turkmenistan and the United States, built on mutual understanding, respect and trust, are multifaceted, encompassing the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Acknowledging that the United States supports the independence and the legal status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, the Hero-Arkadag expressed his appreciation to the American side.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted that an active political dialogue has been maintained between the two nations in recent years. In November 2015, the President of Turkmenistan participated in the C5+1 Summit in Washington and, during a meeting with Donald Trump, discussed the prospects for developing the Turkmen-American relations.

The significance of the recent C5+1 meeting in Samarkand, involving the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries and the U.S. Secretary of State, was also underscored. Furthermore, active contacts are maintained between the foreign-policy agencies of both countries.

The fruitful nature of the bilateral trade and economic partnership is evidenced by the long-standing experience of cooperation with American companies such as Nicklaus Design, John Deere, Case New Holland and Boeing. The Turkmenistan–USA Business Council is active, with its most recent meeting having taken place in Ashgabat.

Endowed with abundant natural resources, Turkmenistan is implementing a strategy to diversify its energy supply routes, advocating for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation based on the equitable consideration of the interests of producers, consumers and transit states. In this context, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that our country highly values the attention and support provided by the United States for the implementation of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, which has a significant energy-related potential for the region.

Stating the availability of broad opportunities for bilateral cooperation in sectors such as the energy sector and the transport and logistics sphere, the Hero-Arkadag also highlighted Turkmenistan’s commitment to fostering and developing cultural and humanitarian ties.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to further develop their long-term and multifaceted cooperation.
