The Ahal Hydrogeological Expedition of the Türkmengeologiýa State Corporation is considered one of the leading organizations of our independent neutral Motherland. It was founded on May 15, 1949. Since that time, the Expedition has functioned under various names in the field of geology, hydrogeology and engineering and geological activities, dealing with issues of the provision of the country’s settlements with drinking water, the irrigation of cultivated lands and water supply to the livestock sector, as well as the prospecting and exploration of underground mineral waters of industrial and balneological significance, the calculation of their operational resources and the study of the quality of discovered groundwater.
In 2002, the Expedition received its current name – the Ahal Hydrogeological Expedition. As it is seen from its name, currently the Expedition, based on the plan of geological research activities of the Türkmengeologiýa State Corporation, conducts geological and hydrogeological surveys on the territory of the Ahal velayat, mainly in the following areas: the prospecting and exploration of groundwater, preliminary and detailed surveys to determine and calculate their operational resources, geo-ecological studies on a scale 1:200,000 and 1:50,000, hydrogeological photography, photography with mapping, research into the mode, balance and quality of groundwater and the study of hydrogeological criteria predicting earthquakes in Turkmenistan.
