V. he gas industry of Turkmenistan: from the past to the present

The 1970s were a very productive period for the gas industry of Turkmenistan. Through the efforts of oil and gas specialists and geologists of the country, many gas and gas condensate fields discovered in different years, which made a significant contribution to strengthening the national economy, were put into operation.

The Kukurtli gas condensate field, which is one of the largest in terms of resources, is located in the north-eastern part of Turkmenistan, on the left coast of the Amu Darya River. Deposits of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras, lying above the dislocated rocks of the Paleozoic, were found in exploration and production wells. The Kukurtli gas condensate field was put into operation in 1970 by gas extraction from sulfur-free horizons XI, XIII, XIII, XIV and XVII.  Horizon XV, containing sulfur, was commissioned in 1983.
