At the 63rd plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution proposed by Turkmenistan was unanimously adopted declaring 2025 the “International Year of Peace and Trust.” This was announced by Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Rashid Meredov at a government meeting on Saturday, March 23.

As noted, this document is intended to contribute to the resolution of emerging conflict situations by peaceful, political and diplomatic methods and means, and to strengthening trusting relations between states. The resolution also demonstrates the importance of continuing efforts to promote a culture of peaceful dialogue in the international community.

In connection with the adoption of this resolution, the Vice-Chairman voiced proposals to hold events in the country and abroad, create an organizational commission at the government level, consider relevant issues at its meetings and carry out this work at the international level.

“It is also proposed to hold meetings with the participation of the head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan,” Meredov said.

“The fact that the UN member states supported this initiative of Turkmenistan, and the fact that 86 countries co-sponsored the Resolution, is a great honor for us,” President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized.

In this regard, the head of Turkmenistan, on behalf of the Turkmen people, expressed sincere gratitude to all countries for the support provided.

“The adoption of this document is clear evidence of international recognition of the Fatherland’s efforts to ensure global peace and sustainable development, build up mutually beneficial, friendly and fraternal relations, and strengthen trust between the states of the planet,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
