As part of the new partnership strategy of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with Turkmenistan for 2024-2028, the bank will focus on supporting climate adaptation and green transformation. This was stated by ADB Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Artur Andrisiak at the international conference “Construction, Industry, Energy of Turkmenistan” (CIET 2024) in Ashgabat, the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Turkmenistan reports.
Artur Andrisiak noted that ADB will pay special attention to projects aimed at reducing emissions and decarbonizing the energy, transport, agriculture, and urban infrastructure sectors.
Among the significant initiatives, Andrisiak highlighted the development of solar and wind energy, including a grant for the installation of wind turbines, as well as a project to strengthen the national power grid to increase its resilience to climate change.
These measures, he said, will allow Turkmenistan to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and increase electricity exports to regional markets.
The speaker also noted ADB's cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan aimed at modernizing gas power plants and increasing the share of renewable energy.
An important area of work, according to him, will be the creation of a roadmap for a low-carbon transition in the energy sector, which will attract additional investment in energy efficient solutions.
