Turkmenistan and the UAE Aim to Boost Cooperation in the Energy Sector

The prospects for cooperation in the energy sector were at the center of discussions held on November 25 during meetings between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with members of the delegation from the United Arab Emirates, according to TDH.
The UAE delegation includes Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted at the meeting with the guests that a number of projects have been implemented in Turkmenistan with the participation of leading companies, including financial and investment structures of the UAE. At the same time, the head of state confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to intensify interaction with ADNOC.
It was also stated that the fuel and energy potential and favorable geographical location of the two countries create broad opportunities for effective expansion of Turkmen-Emirati cooperation.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan pays special attention to the further development and strengthening of multilateral cooperation. At the same time, it was stated that bilateral partnership encompasses such areas as political and diplomatic relations, trade and economic ties, the fuel and energy complex, the transport and communications sector, and the construction of social facilities.
Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that the UAE is one of Turkmenistan's important trade and economic partners. The annual growth of bilateral trade is a clear confirmation of this.
In turn, the guests noted that the UAE attaches great importance to expanding bilateral relations based on the principles of mutual benefit and friendship.
Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the meeting with the guests from the UAE that the two countries are carrying out mutually beneficial cooperation in the fuel and energy, transport and communications, and financial sectors. In this regard, the large contribution of leading UAE companies to the development of the Turkmen fuel and energy complex, as well as the accumulated many years of positive experience in this area, was noted.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov recalled that during his visit to the UAE in February 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the energy sector was signed between the State Concern "Turkmengas" and the company "ADNOC".
“Within the framework of this document, we confirm our desire to further increase bilateral partnership,” said the Hero-Arkadag, inviting Emirati partners to actively participate in large-scale energy projects being implemented in our country. At the same time, Turkmenistan's readiness to consider specific proposals in this direction was expressed.
The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty noted that the petrochemical products produced in Turkmenistan, which occupies a leading position in the world in terms of hydrocarbon reserves, are in high demand on the world market, and recently industrial inflow of natural gas with a daily rate of 2 million cubic meters was obtained at the Galkynysh gas field.
Speaking about the great interest of the countries of the region in importing Turkmen gas under the "SWAP" scheme, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of implementing the project to build the transnational Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline.
Noting that a favorable investment climate has been created in Turkmenistan and an appropriate legal framework has been formed in this direction, the guests confirmed their readiness to further increase mutually beneficial cooperation.
