Issues of expanding bilateral relations in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres were discussed at a meeting on March 16 between Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Foreign Ministry of our country reports.
Emphasizing the development of bilateral cooperation, stable and trusting political dialogue, the ministers noted that the meetings of the heads of the two states give great impetus to Turkmen-Qatari relations.
Also during the conversation, the parties emphasized that energy, investment and transport sectors are intended to be promising areas of Turkmen-Qatari relations, the Foreign Ministry notes.
In addition, a detailed exchange of views took place on issues of regional security and development priorities, as well as the socio-economic situation in Afghanistan.
In particular, the progress of construction work on the Serhetabat-Herat section in Afghanistan, which is an important stage in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, was discussed. The Qatari side highly appreciated cooperation in this area.
The delegation of Turkmenistan was also received by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Along with constructive bilateral cooperation, the effectiveness of interaction in multilateral formats, primarily within the UN, was emphasized.
In particular, it was noted that on December 12, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, an International Forum of Peace and Trust will be held in Ashgabat. The Qatari side was invited to take part in this international forum and festive events.
