Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan intend to increase trade turnover to 2 billion US dollars

Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan has increased several times in recent years and exceeded 1 billion US dollars. As reported following the recent talks between the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the parties agreed to bring this figure to 2 billion US dollars, and also to consider the prospect of increasing the volume to 5 billion US dollars.

One of the key areas of bilateral cooperation is energy. In this area, the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline occupies a special place.

Transport remains an equally important element of the partnership. The two countries are working to integrate the transport systems of Central Asia, China, Europe, the Near and Middle East.

Business circles of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan hold joint forums and exhibitions, regional contacts have been established, including cooperation between the Lebap velayat and Bukhara and the Dashoguz velayat and Khorezm. It is planned to open the Dashoguz-Shabat checkpoint and a border trade zone.

As part of the UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, a trilateral meeting was held in Avaza with the participation of Hero-Arkadag, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov. The meeting discussed the prospects for industrial cooperation, including in the fuel and energy sector, as well as the development of transport and logistics links in the East-West and North-South directions using the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port.

At a meeting on August 5 with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that relations between the countries are a foreign policy priority and are built on a solid foundation of friendship and political will. The partnership covers agriculture, electric power, oil and gas, chemical industry and other areas.
