During his working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Federal President of the Republic of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen on September 24, TDH reports.

During the meeting, it was noted that Austria is one of Turkmenistan's long-standing and important partners in the European region. Relations between the countries are developing on the basis of mutual respect, friendship, and understanding.

Trade and economic matters were identified as a priority area of bilateral cooperation. Austrian companies supply the Turkmen market with transportation equipment, as well as equipment for the healthcare, chemical, and oil and gas industries.

The importance of the Turkmen-Austrian joint commission, aimed at maximizing the economic potential of the two countries, was particularly emphasized. In this regard, Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the commission's work, which serves as a coordinator between government agencies and the private sector, will be further supported.

The parties also noted the positive nature of political and diplomatic relations. Turkmenistan and Austria successfully cooperate not only bilaterally but also multilaterally, particularly within the UN.

Recalling that 2025, declared by the UN at Turkmenistan's initiative as the "International Year of Peace and Trust," marks the 30th anniversary of the country's permanent neutrality, the head of state invited Alexander Van der Bellen to participate in the International Forum to mark this significant date, which will be held in Ashgabat on December 12.

Accepting the invitation, the Austrian President emphasized that Turkmenistan's policy of neutrality makes an important contribution to ensuring global peace and enjoys broad support from the international community.
