The sixth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Hungarian Commission on Economic Cooperation took place in Ashgabat on September 29-30, focusing on strategically important sectors, Orient reports.
The visit's program also included a series of substantive meetings, indicating a transition to concrete implementation of the agreements.
Energy was the main strategic area of cooperation. In particular, high-ranking members of the Hungarian delegation held separate talks with the leadership of the Turkmengas State Concern and the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan.
The format of the meeting itself, with the participation of key figures, including the CEO of MVM Group Co. Ltd. (one of Hungary's largest energy holdings), also indicates a substantive discussion of energy connectivity and potential projects. This confirms that Hungary, as a member of the European Union, views Turkmenistan as a strategically important partner in the supply and diversification of energy resources.
The commission participants particularly emphasized the importance of the speedy signing of an intergovernmental agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments. This will expand cooperation between the two countries' economic structures and create a legal basis for the influx of Hungarian investment into Turkmenistan.
The parties confirmed Hungary's readiness to act as a gateway for expanding trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
During the meeting, a wide range of cooperation in areas such as agriculture, food industry, water resources management, environmental protection, healthcare, and the medical industry was also discussed.
Following the meeting, the Protocol of the sixth meeting was signed. The parties agreed to hold the seventh meeting of the commission in Budapest.
