Hungary is counting on Turkmenistan as a reliable partner in the energy sector, said Ádám Stifter, Undersecretary of State for Eastern Affairs. He made this statement following a meeting of the Turkmen-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held in Ashgabat.

"In the energy sector, we count on Turkmenistan as a reliable partner," Stifter said in a video commentary posted on the website of the Turkmenistan International Information Center.

"Hungary depends on natural gas imports from various countries, so we also look to Turkmenistan with great hope that Turkmenistan will soon become a gas supplier to Europe, and more specifically, to Hungary," Stifter noted.

In the same video, Peter Holicza, Undersecretary of State for European Affairs, spoke about the prospects for cooperation in the fuel and energy sector.

"Today we discussed natural gas trade between Turkmenistan and Hungary, potential hydrocarbon exploration and development projects on the Caspian shelf, and future joint renewable energy initiatives," said Holicza.

He emphasized that "this meeting yielded excellent results, as we were able to identify key principles on which these areas can be developed."

Holicza also noted that further steps to expand energy cooperation are planned for discussion in October.

"We are grateful for the invitation to the International Energy Forum, which will be hosted by the government this October. We will certainly strive to participate in this event to discuss further steps and opportunities for expanding energy cooperation both in Turkmenistan and in the region as a whole," said Holicza.
