During a working visit to the Balkan region on November 2, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new urea production complex with a capacity of 1.155 million tons per year, TDH reports.

The new urea production complex, the foundation of which is being laid today in the Turkmenbashi etrap of the Balkan region, is one of the major investment projects, the head of state emphasized, noting that three urea production plants are currently operating in the country: Tejenkarbamid, Marykarbamid, and Garabogazkarbamid.

The president noted that the new complex will comply with international environmental standards and will be built by a consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan) and Gap Inşaat (Turkey). It will utilize advanced technologies from leading European and Asian companies.

The complex is designed to produce 2,000 tons daily, or 660,000 tons of ammonia per year, which will be used as a feedstock in urea production. Overall, the plant will produce 1,155,000 tons of urea fertilizers annually. Its products will also be exported, the head of state continued.

Importantly, the modern facility will create over 1,000 new jobs, and most of the specialists involved have been trained at universities worldwide. They will be provided with all the necessary conditions.

Overall, the new urea production complex will make a significant contribution to the further development of the domestic chemical industry. This will provide a powerful impetus to rapid economic progress, opening up vast opportunities for further improving the social and living conditions of the country's population, the President emphasized.

The ammonia production technology will be supplied by the Danish company Topsoe, the urea synthesis by the Italian company Saipem, and the main urea production will be provided by the German company Thyssenkrupp. Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. will implement CO₂ recovery technology that minimizes environmental impacts and meets global green industry standards.

On the same day, Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz section of the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border highway. The head of state also participated in the opening of a water treatment facility with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters per day in Esenguly Etrap and a road bridge across Garabogaz Bay.
