On November 8, the autumn tree planting season in Turkmenistan kicked off in the southern part of the capital with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, TDH reports.
The tree planting campaign is one of the most important national events symbolizing the country's commitment to the principles of environmental well-being. It is not only an environmental but also a significant socio-cultural event that promotes social cohesion. Thanks to such systematic campaigns, the capital and other cities of our country are being covered with green spaces.
By planting a 12-year-old Turkmen juniper, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov opened the autumn tree planting campaign. It is noteworthy that the age of the planted tree coincides with the significant date – December 12 – International Day of Neutrality. The Speaker of the Mejlis, Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads and representatives of military and law enforcement agencies, ministries, industry agencies, diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in our country, and the general public also participated in the tree planting.
The head of state noted that Turkmenistan's environmental policy is aimed at creating a favorable and sustainable natural environment and instructed that efforts to transform the Fatherland into a flourishing land be constantly monitored.
Planting shade trees around cities and other populated areas ensures a clean environment and prevents air pollution. In desert conditions, such plantings reliably protect populated areas from wind and dust. Dense green spaces also play a vital role in reducing the impact of mudflows and generally creating a favorable microclimate.
During the nationwide tree planting campaign, more than 449,000 tree saplings were planted across the country. In addition to cleaning and landscaping parks and forest areas, a total of more than 1.9 million trees were cared for.
