Turkmenistan's special services rescued 14 people from an Iranian vessel in distress in the Caspian Sea, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported on its website on January 14.
"On January 14, 2026, Turkmenistan's coastal services in the Caspian Sea received an SOS signal from the Iranian bulk carrier Rona in distress.
Turkmenistan's state agencies responsible for emergency response and prevention, in accordance with international maritime regulations, took all necessary measures to rescue the people," the press service reported.
It was noted that "as a result of timely measures taken, all 14 people on board were rescued. According to preliminary information, these were citizens of Iran and India".
The Turkmen side is currently carrying out the relevant procedures stipulated by international regulations, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted.
