On Thursday, June 23, the Yyldyz hotel in the capital will host the International Scientific Conference «Environmental aspects in the production of hydrocarbon resources», organized by the State Concerns «Turkmengas» and «Turkmennebit» in partnership with the company «Turkmen Forum» with the support of the British company «GaffneyCline».

The conference will also focus on the management of the world-famous Darvaza gas crater.  In one of the sessions of the conference, the famous researcher of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, George Koronis, who was the first to set foot on the bottom of the burning Darvaza crater during a scientific expedition in 2013, will make a presentation.

According to the organizers of the conference, this prestigious event is planned to be held annually with the aim of discussing the environmental problems facing the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan and strengthening international cooperation between Turkmen state organizations and major oil and gas institutions and international organizations focused on the environment and a green future.

Turkmenistan pays special attention to environmental issues and, in particular, to the reduction of methane and associated gas emissions in the development of oil and gas fields.

The conference will be attended by high-ranking representatives of the government of Turkmenistan, heads of national and international oil and gas companies, senior management of energy organizations, as well as major international institutions and research centers.

Key topics for discussion will be innovative technologies and know-how in hydrocarbon production and reduction of associated gas emissions, hydrogen and energy projects of the new era, the prospects for managing the Darvaza gas crater, international experience in promoting clean energy and new climate financing available for the energy sector of Turkmenistan.

The impressive list of delegates includes representatives of well-known international companies such as CNPC, BP, SOCAR, Petronas, Areti, Mitro International, Buried Hill, NAPECO, Dragon Oil, ENI, Lukoil.  Also among the participants are representatives of international oil and gas organizations such as the International Energy Agency, IRENA, the Global Gas Center, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Energy Charter Secretariat.

The meetings and panel discussions of the conference will be attended by representatives of numerous international organizations and financial institutions – the UN, the OSCE, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan.

Participation in the conference and business meetings during the event is expected to increase delegates' understanding of the potential investment opportunities in the field of renewable energy and the diversification of the energy sector towards cleaner energy.

Presentations and panel sessions during the event will inform participants about the latest initiatives to reduce emissions and associated gas in the development of Turkmenistan's huge energy resources.

Due to travel restrictions, the event will be held both traditionally and online.  The same approach will be used to organize meetings on the sidelines of the Conference with the leadership of the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan.
