The United Nations and its Environment Program (UNEP) are ready to assist Turkmenistan in the development of «green» technologies and provide access to all scientific data relevant in the current period of the global energy transition.
This was stated by the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko on the sidelines of the international scientific conference «Environmental aspects of hydrocarbon production», held on Thursday in Ashgabat, ORIENT reports.
– We believe that there are technologies through which Turkmenistan can significantly reduce methane emissions. According to our data, if they are introduced, emissions will be reduced by 75%, which is a lot. Therefore, today it is important for us that the constructive work between the UN and Turkmenistan continues,” Shlapachenko said.
UN structures agree that official Ashgabat has made issues related to methane emissions a priority and will fight them, the diplomat noted.
Referring to the organization of the current environmental conference in Ashgabat, Shlapachenko stressed that it was held at a high level and was successful.
– The holding of this event indicates that Turkmenistan is very openly working with the UN and other international partners on environmental issues in general, and methane emissions in particular.
