 The seaport of Turkmenbashi in 2021 increased the volume of cargo transportation by 28% compared to 2019.  This was announced by the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Atageldy Khaljanov, speaking at the conference "International transport and transit corridors: interconnection and development" that opened on Monday in Ashgabat.

 - Despite the current situation in the world and the strict measures introduced in the port of Turkmenbashi, the growth of cargo transportation last year compared to 2019 increased by 28%, including container traffic increased by 3 times, and road transport by 15%, -  Khaljanov said.

 During the conference, the head of the international seaport of Turkmenbashi Seyitguly Baiseidov said that the total volume of cargo transshipment through the port terminals in 2021 amounted to more than 11.3 million tons.  Most of them are exports - over 6.5 million tons.  Import amounted to 1.2 million tons, and transit - 353 thousand tons.

 Bayseidov also emphasized the important geopolitical importance of the port of Turkmenbashi in Eurasia.  Being on the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) trade route, it is able to receive ships throughout the year, carry out loading and unloading operations around the clock, its throughput capacity is 17 million tons of cargo per year, excluding oil products.
