Specific initiatives in the fields of energy and transport were announced by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday at a meeting with the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Zhang Ming, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

As Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, Turkmenistan has gained extensive experience in the field of energy and is ready to share it, as well as participate in joint work on the implementation of specific energy projects with the SCO member states.

Expressing his conviction that the implementation of such projects is an example of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the SCO states in the energy sector, Serdar Berdimuhamedov suggested considering the possibility of creating a special working group («ad hoc») between Turkmenistan and the interested SCO states on energy issues.

The head of Turkmenistan also voiced a proposal to establish an interim Coordinating Council to ensure coordinated and efficient work in the field of transport.

Proposing to create a Business Council «Turkmenistan-SCO», within the framework of which annual business meetings, exhibitions, presentations of economic projects will be held, the Turkmen leader confirmed Ashgabat's readiness for constructive joint work.

As Zhang Ming noted, the interaction of Turkmenistan with the SCO is of particular importance, since the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan at the international level are similar to the goals and objectives of the Organization.

Zhang Ming also stressed that the SCO highly appreciates the far-sighted and responsible approach of Turkmenistan to the issues of expanding and strengthening cooperation across its entire spectrum with the member states of the Organization, expressing his intention to continue working in close contact with the Turkmen side.
