Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will make joint efforts to deepen investment cooperation, increase the volume and expansion of mutual trade, and develop energy partnership.  This is stated in the «Declaration on deepening the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan», signed by Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev following the talks on Friday in Ashgabat.

«The parties will make joint efforts to progressively deepen investment cooperation, increase the volume and expansion of mutual trade, as well as to remove barriers hindering its development», the Declaration, published today on the website of the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, says.

“The parties express their readiness to actively cooperate in the joint development of trade zones in the border areas.  The parties welcome the interaction of companies of the two states in the field of mutual deliveries of automotive and specialized equipment,” the Declaration says.

“The parties will continue to comprehensively develop constructive cooperation in the energy sector, which is important for the development of the economies and ensuring the energy security of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.  The parties express their further readiness to purchase, supply and transit natural gas and electricity on mutually beneficial terms in the short, medium and long term,” the Declaration says.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, in January-August 2022, the volume of trade between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan amounted to 533.5 million US dollars.  In the structure of trade for this period, the largest share was occupied by imports from Turkmenistan of fuel, lubricating oils and other similar products in the amount of 338.9 million US dollars.
