 The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the meeting of special representatives for Afghanistan, held on May 1-2 in Doha, Qatar, under the auspices of the UN Secretary General, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.  The meeting was attended by UN Secretary General António Guterres.  The Turkmen side was represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Khadzhiev.

 During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on the current military-political, economic and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

 The head of the Turkmen delegation noted the consistent activities of Turkmenistan to provide assistance to the Afghan people, based on the principles of good neighborliness and humanism.

 Khadzhiev also emphasized the implementation by Turkmenistan on the basis of a policy of neutrality of large projects aimed at developing the economy of the neighboring country - Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI), the power transmission line and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) railway.

 The meeting participants expressed a common opinion on the need to hold regular meetings under the auspices of the UN, which will contribute to the normalization of the situation in Afghanistan.

 It is also reported that on May 2, the delegation of Turkmenistan held talks with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Khaled Hiari.  During the meeting, it was emphasized that the further continuation by Turkmenistan of trade and economic partnership with the neighboring state, the implementation of major economic projects, the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, is of great importance in the development of the Afghan economy.

 In turn, Hiari emphasized the purposeful activities of Turkmenistan to ensure peace and security, as well as sustainable development in the region.
