Developing international scientific dialogue and exploring innovative technologies were key outcomes of the recently concluded three-week internship for Turkmen specialists at Clausthal University of Technology in Germany.
The internship was conducted as part of the project “European Union for Green Development in Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action 2024–2029,” implemented by GIZ and co-financed by the EU and the German Federal Foreign Office.
The Turkmen delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the Türkmengaz State Concern, the teaching staff and researchers from the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan and Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University and representatives of the Natural Gas Research Institute.
The program focused on the practical application of green technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in areas such as methane emission reduction, corrosion control, renewable energy and others.
Internship participants practiced well integrity analysis, leak detection and digital modeling of gas plumes using AI and the COMSO program; learned about assessing corrosion types and modern equipment protection methodologies; and were acquainted with modeling and forecasting solar energy production using machine learning methods.
As part of the international study program, the Turkmenistan delegation visited renowned companies and research centers such as Landwind Group, the Drilling Simulation Center, the CUTEC Environmental Technology Research Center and Harbor Energy.
Evaluating the significance of the academic exchange, GIZ Program Manager Dr. Karolina Milow noted, “Cooperation with leading European research centers opens new horizons for joint climate actions. The transfer of practical skills in digital modeling and the use of artificial intelligence will enable Turkmen specialists to effectively implement cutting-edge eco-friendly solutions directly on the ground, making a significant contribution to reducing the region’s carbon footprint and ensuring its sustainable energy future.”
The acquired European experience and the methods learned will assist the participants in their future practical, industrial and research activity in Turkmenistan.
The internship became an important practical step in strengthening Turkmenistan’s national scientific potential and advancing climate goals shared with the European Union.
