The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discussed the implementation of joint projects

On Thursday, a telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani took place.

Noting the progressive dynamics of cooperation, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan attached particular importance to the comprehensive development of interstate relations.

Having noted the productive nature of the partnership in the trade, economic, fuel, energy and transport and communication spheres, the interlocutors stressed that joint large projects were currently being implemented in these areas. The construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline, a high-voltage power transmission line and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route were named as examples.

Particular emphasis was placed on the significance of the Lapis Lazuli transit transport corridor, created within the framework of the Agreement signed between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

The Presidents expressed confidence that the successful implementation of these projects would make a significant contribution to the development of interregional trade and economic relations.
