OSCE organized a seminar on energy diplomacy in Turkmenistan

In anticipation of the International Conference «Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2021», the OSCE organized an online seminar in Ashgabat on international best practices in developing strategies and promoting energy diplomacy in the oil and gas sector.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy, the state concerns «Turkmengas» and «Turkmennebit», the Ministry of Finance and Economy, higher educational institutions and other bodies.

Two international experts from the Russian Federation presented priorities in the energy sector, analyzed global and regional trends, and highlighted the relationship between international energy security and sustainable development in the oil and gas sector.

 - Energy diplomacy is the newest functional area of modern diplomacy.  In recent years, its role has been steadily growing in the energy sector and serves as an instrument for lobbying the political and economic interests of states in the international arena”, John McGregor, head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, said.  “That is why energy security issues are one of the main priorities of global and national politics and require a constructive interstate dialogue and effective cooperation”.

This meeting is a continuation of the cooperation of the OSCE Center with Turkmenistan in the field of energy security, part of which is support in the development and implementation of the Program for the Development of Energy Diplomacy of Turkmenistan for 2021-2025.
